Ideas in Practice Sessions
These Sessions create an opportunity for participants to step back, explore a new idea and consider what it might mean for your organisation, your work or your industry.
Each session brings participants together online with an expert speaker to explore a topic, idea or emerging issue. The focus isn’t simply on listening to an expert. It is on what happens when people have the opportunity to question, discuss and think about what they have heard.
New perspectives
We bring in people who have knowledge, experience or perspectives that participants may not normally encounter. They might come from research, industry, government, business, technology or a completely different sector.
They might introduce:
- new research or evidence
- emerging trends
- different approaches to familiar problems
- experiences from another industry
- new ways of thinking
- emerging opportunities or risks
The aim is to give participants something they wouldn’t necessarily encounter in their day-to-day work.
Think beyond the presentation
The expert input is only the starting point. Participants have time to ask questions, challenge ideas and discuss what they have heard.
We might explore:
- What surprised you?
- What do you agree or disagree with?
- What challenges the way you currently think about this?
- Have you seen something similar in your own work?
- What could this mean for your organisation or industry?
The conversation is often where the most interesting thinking happens.
Make the connections
One of the benefits of bringing people together is hearing how others approach the same issue. Participants can share their own experience, compare perspectives and make connections between ideas that might not otherwise come together.
We deliberately encourage people to look beyond their own organisation, profession or industry. Sometimes the most useful idea comes from somewhere completely unexpected.
Take the thinking back to work
These sessions aren’t designed to provide a list of answers. They are designed to leave people with better questions, new perspectives and ideas worth exploring.
Participants are encouraged to consider:
- Is there something I need to look at differently?
- Is there an assumption I should revisit?
- Is there an idea here that could be useful?
- Is there something I want to explore further?
- Is there something we could do differently?
The outcome might be a new idea, a different perspective, a question worth pursuing or simply a shift in how someone sees an issue.
What makes these different?
Ideas in practice sessions are not traditional webinars.
They combine:
- Application: Consider what you might do differently as a result.
- Expert insight: Hear from people with knowledge and experience outside your usual networks.
- Discussion: Explore and challenge the ideas rather than simply listening to them.
- Reflection: Consider what the ideas mean for you and your work.
- Connection: Learn from the experiences and perspectives of others.
What organisations can expect
Sessions can be delivered as:
- individual sessions
- a series of sessions exploring different topics
- an organisation-specific series
- an industry-wide program
Topics can be selected around an organisation’s strategic priorities, emerging issues or areas where there is value in bringing in a different perspective.
