The expression has given rise to related words, such as animate, meaning ‘alive’ or ‘to give life to’. A film that comes to life is characterised as animated; while an animated person is similarly described for their enthusiasm, vibrancy, and dynamism. The Anima therefore represents our unique energy – our passion, sensitivity, creativity, and intuition. When we live in alignment with our Anima, we create a life based on joy, honesty, choice and freedom.
The Anima is the indescribable element within each of us that enables us to connect with life in a distinct and extraordinary way… the ingredient that makes each of us uniquely us.
The word is imbued with rich and varied meanings across different linguistic and cultural backgrounds. In Spanish, Anima can be loosely translated to mean support, motivation and encouragement. In Greek, Anima is closely related to the word, anemos, meaning ‘wind’. In Sanskrit, Anima signifies perseverance, the smallest particle, or the ability to become minute, highlighting a nuanced interpretation of the power of subtlety and inner strength.
More recently, through Jungian psychology, the word Anima has been used to refer to the feminine element of a man’s personality; representing his true self, rather than the mask he presents to the world. Associated with compassion, creativity, sensitivity, and awareness, the inner journey to find the Anima provides a pathway to meaning, completeness and wholeness. As such, it represents the merging of disparate parts, creating a whole that is so much more than its individual elements.

Anne has many years’ experience in senior management and executive roles. Over the past few years, Anne’s focus has increasingly been on building people and workforce capacity to address the growing need to attract and retain people in northern Australia – as well as to grow local talent.
Anne has a passion for empowering others, and for the past six years, has led a Northern Territory Women’s Leadership Network. The intent of the Network is to bring women together to inspire and be inspired, to promote female role models, and to provide women with opportunities to develop, network and share.
Anne attributes much of her success to her empathetic and inclusive leadership style, her communication skills, her willingness to continually learn and self-reflect, and her honesty, openness, and authenticity.
Anne was awarded the 2020 Telstra Business Women’s Award for Public Sector and Academia in the Northern Territory. In 2022, Anne received the Women’s Leadership Australia Award for Excellence in Leadership for the Northern Territory, and in 2024, Anne was a finalist in the NT News Woman of the Year.
