“Thanks for organising such an amazing event—what a brilliant night of innovation and inspiration!
If the goal was to promote biosecurity in the NT, I’d say mission accomplished… and then some.
You may have just cracked a whole new demographic of bio warriors!
My smallest human, 7 years of age (almost 8!), was off to school this morning armed with his squishy cow, a fist full of brochures and message about BioGlow!
This morning, he proudly marched into school with their Biosecurity showbag like it was a briefcase full of top-secret intel.
The plan – ‘Dominate show-n-tell and let everyone know about the wonders of Biosecurity!
Thanks again for a fantastic evening. You’ve made biosecurity cool—and I may have a budding scientist on my hands!”
The Northern Australia Biosecurity Strategy (NABS), an initiative of the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry, is all about testing new and innovative ways of communicating with the community, building capacity, and enhancing biosecurity outcomes for northern Australia.
This year, we trialled something completely new. A light projection show that aimed to raise community awareness about biosecurity in a fun and appealing way. The show involved using animation to illustrate four of the key threats to northern Australia – avian influenza, citrus greening, lumpy skin disease, and charru mussels.
The event was held at the Darwin Waterfront, which saw a broad cross section of the community attend, many of whom have very little understanding of biosecurity. We estimate that as many as 500 people attended the event – all who now have a better understanding of biosecurity!
Through the light show, Anima Co tested novel communication methods to educate and raise awareness within the community in a fun and entertaining way. And hopefully, in the process, we will create a whole new demographic of biowarriors!
