Build a Super Pest Competition

The Northern Australia Biosecurity Strategy ‘Build a Super Pest’ Competition has now officially wrapped up, and what a fantastic response we received!

We are delighted to congratulate our winning schools: Our Lady of the Sacred Heart and St Marys Primary School.

Across all entries, we saw an incredible level of creativity, curiosity and innovation from our young “Super Pest Detectives”. Every submission demonstrated thoughtful research and imaginative thinking, bringing biosecurity concepts to life in exciting and unexpected ways.

The competition was designed to encourage students to explore biosecurity in a fun and engaging way. Students were asked to research biosecurity pests, consider what makes them successful, and then apply that understanding to design their own fictional “super pest”.

The result was a wonderful mix of scientific thinking and creative storytelling — exactly what this program set out to inspire.

A big thank you to all participating schools and students for their enthusiasm and effort. The creativity on display shows just how effectively learning can come to life when science and imagination are combined.
