Industry Toolbox – Trade and Market Access
On 19 May, industry representatives, regulators and stakeholders came together in Adelaide for the latest Northern Australia Biosecurity Strategy (NABS) Industry Toolbox session, focused on strengthening biosecurity preparedness, collaboration and trade continuity across Australia’s agricultural industries.
The session brought together a broad range of experience and perspectives, creating an open and constructive environment for discussion around some of the key challenges and opportunities facing industry and government during biosecurity response events.
Throughout the day, conversations explored:
- the importance of strong relationships, trust and collaboration
- improving communication and decision-making pathways
- recognising existing industry operational systems and surveillance capability
- the need for greater national consistency in approaches and requirements
- and opportunities to strengthen preparedness and support rapid return to trade following a biosecurity incursion.
What stood out most was the genuine willingness across industry and government to listen, share experiences and work together in a practical way to improve preparedness and support better outcomes for industry.
The discussions reinforced the importance of continuing to bring people together — not only to explore future opportunities and challenges, but also to strengthen the relationships and shared understanding that are so critical during response events.
