Today, we were incredibly lucky to have Dante St James join us at our Lunch with Leaders event! The session focused on ‘Getting to know your new colleague’ – that is, Artificial Intelligence.

Dante was careful to emphasise that AI is a helper, it isn’t a replacement. If used correctly, it will help us to get back to the activities that need the human element. AI shines in undertaking repetitive tasks that need to be done – those tasks that many of us find tedious! So, it can be a fantastic opportunity for us to become more productive and efficient in the things that need us most.

So, you ask, how can AI make your life easier?

Well, firstly, it can screen through your email chains and identify the information you need so you don’t need to trawl through all the additional niceties and other content that isn’t important to you.

Secondly, it can undertake automated form processing for you.

Thirdly, it helps you write better, faster. It will compile communications information for your target audience, considering some of the information you might have overlooked or forgotten and using the style and brand relevant to your organisation – and you can then make the necessary edits to make it an even better product.

How can you get started?

  • Begin with low-risk tasks (routine email responses, summaries of non-sensitive documents, simplify language for public communications)
  • Follow best practices (review the AI-generated content, use organisationally approved tools, communicate your experience with colleagues, provide feedback to improve systems).

A big thank you to Dante for joining us – and to everyone who joined today’s session.

Looking forward to seeing you at our next session with Lloyd Klump on Friday 22 August at 12.30 ACST.
