We were incredibly fortunate to be joined by Lloyd Klumpp for today’s Northern Australia Biosecurity Strategy (NABS) ‘Lunch with Leaders’ session.
Lloyd was brilliant. He spoke about his extensive experience in the private and public sectors – starting with a story early in his career as a private veterinarian, where he learned the important lesson of being careful not to pre-empt what other people think or how they are going to react.
He reflected on the importance of good relationships, good communication, and trust as a leader; living to your values; and being honest and respectful in all your dealings with people (even during those difficult conversations).
There were a couple of comments Lloyd made that will certainly stay with me – ‘flexible thoughts are a strength not a weakness’ (it’s ok to change your mind) and ‘none of us are a good leader without good teams around us’ (be sure to build the relationships with your people).
