Today we kicked off our very first Mind Your Melon session with Tom from Healthy Minds!

One of the biggest takeaways?
Mental health isn’t about feeling happy 24/7. Nobody is “up” all the time — and that’s completely normal. Instead, we focused on wellbeing: the everyday things that help keep us mentally fit and resilient.

We also explored the first 3 of the “7 Secrets to a Healthy Mind” (which, apparently, aren’t actually secret):

  1. Unhelpful perfectionism
Fear of making mistakes, trying something new or getting things wrong can hold us back. But growth, learning and innovation often come from being willing to fail, learn and try again.
  2. Thoughts affect how you feel — but they aren’t always accurate
Our thinking shapes our emotions. Anxious thoughts often overestimate risk or expect the worst, so learning to challenge those thoughts can make a real difference.
  3. Emotions are natural
Emotions exist for a reason. They’ve evolved to help us respond, adapt and connect — not something we need to “switch off” or avoid.

We also talked about the importance of connected teams, supportive relationships, exercise, sleep, purpose and making time for the things that fill our cup.

Huge thanks to Tom from Healthy Minds for such an engaging and practical session. Looking forward to continuing the Mind Your Melon conversations on 28 May from 12.30-1.30 ACST – and helping create a culture where checking in on yourself and others becomes part of everyday life!
