Scholarship success for biosecurity researchers

This year, the Crawford Fund NT, through investment from the Commonwealth Government under the Northern Australian Biosecurity Strategy, has invested funds to support conference attendance and international travel for three biosecurity researchers in the Northern Territory.

It is often challenging to attract and retain expertise in northern Australia so programs like these create opportunities for professionals based in the north to continue to grow their skills and networks. Scholarship recipients use this travel to learn new knowledge and skills from other researchers while also building their professional networks.

The successful recipients are:

• Birendra Kunwar, a Masters of Environmental Management student and Plant Pathologist-Plant Biosecurity Researcher at Charles Darwin University and the NT Department of Agriculture and Fisheries will attend the Australasian Plant Pathology Society Conference 2025 in May in Sydney.
• Allyson Malpartida, a PhD student and Population Genomics Research Assistant at Charles Darwin University will attend the Genetics Society of AustralAsia (GSA) Conference in New Zealand in July.
• Naghmeh Nejat, a PhD student and Plant Pathologist at the NT Department of Agriculture and Fisheries will attend the Australasian Plant Pathology Society Conference 2025 in May in Sydney.
