First Nations Internships

The Northern Australia Biosecurity Strategy (NABS) First Nations Internship Program, which is a partnership between Anima Co. and the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry, is designed to support and grow local talent into the biosecurity workforce of the future. Northern Australia faces unique challenges in attracting and retaining skilled people, and this program is part of a broader initiative to encourage local First Nations people into careers in animal, plant, and aquatic biosecurity.

The internship offers First Nations participants the chance to gain hands-on experience across a wide range of science and technical areas, building the skills and knowledge needed to become the next generation of biosecurity and science leaders.

Currently, the program is supporting six First Nations interns across northern Australia. These interns are building their knowledge and skills through practical experience and exposure to real-world projects. As such, the program helps interns develop confidence, skills, and capacity for future roles in the sector.
