We are committed to strengthening the workforce across northern Australia. A strong, sustainable biosecurity system relies on local people who are skilled, capable and connected—and who understand the unique environments, industries and communities of the north.

To achieve this, Anima Co., in partnership with the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry, has built a long-term workforce pipeline that supports individuals from their early schooling years right through to skilled employment. By fostering interest in biosecurity careers and developing local expertise, we aim to ensure northern Australia has the leadership and capability it needs – now and into the future.

Our approach spans the entire education and employment journey, providing opportunities for people to learn, develop and grow at every stage. The NABS Workforce Pipeline outlines how school engagement, structured learning, hands-on experience, and professional pathways come together to form a coordinated development system.

And, we are already seeing results!

The program funds early-career vets for one or two years, giving them hands-on experience with northern production systems, animal health challenges, and the unique biosecurity issues faced across the region. The goal is simple – bring early-career professionals to the north, build their skills and connections, and support their transition into long-term local employment.

One of our early-career vets has recently secured a permanent role with the Northern Territory Government – a fantastic achievement that demonstrates the strength of this pipeline program.

This is exactly the kind of outcome we hoped to see when the initiative was launched, and we look forward to supporting more early-career vets as they build rewarding careers in the north.
